Think twice before trying to save an extra couple of bucks by ordering from a discounted on-line bookseller. Socially, as well as economically, independent bookstores are vital to our society. They provide not only a vast reading selection of books and periodicals, but just as importantly your local bookstore is a meeting place for your community. Better yet, try to imagine a world without a local bookstore. We think you’ll get the picture. It’s simply not so fun to be waiting around for the postman, or drinking coffee at home all by your lonesome!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As a small press we&amp;#39;ve taken a stance against the bad habits of major book wholesalers who allow just about anyone to become an online book seller/retailer: We have removed our titles from the book wholesalers. That’s right, we’ve discontinued our business relationship with the wholesalers. If a bookstore wants a Fisher King title, they must order directly from Fisher King Press. Sure, we stand the chance of losing business by forcing bookstores to purchase directly from us as opposed to a wholesaler, but we feel that a new trend must be set. We offer the same discount to all booksellers straight across the board, whether your an independent bookstore, Barnes &amp;amp; Noble, or Amazon. In other words, as far as Fisher King Press titles are concerned, it’s level playing ground for the Independents and the deep discount cyber-sellers can take their business elsewhere. We hope more publishers will follow this model and we urge independent bookstores to support publishers such as ourselves who are taking this new stand.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/5380701890924698465/1561567283371015524/comments/default/6177928423922514193'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/5380701890924698465/1561567283371015524/comments/default/6177928423922514193'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.bookstoreguide.org/2009/07/independent-bookstores-in-danger-of.html?showComment=1246949849445#c6177928423922514193' title=''/><author><name>Fisher King</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/01252617630238504236</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='27' src='http://72.41.117.144/images/fisherkinglog80k_0.jpg'/></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://www.bookstoreguide.org/2009/07/independent-bookstores-in-danger-of.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5380701890924698465.post-1561567283371015524' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/5380701890924698465/posts/default/1561567283371015524' type='text/html'/><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='blogger.itemClass' value='pid-1451277279'/></entry></feed>
