Stephen said: "It's a rather old bookstore, perhaps the oldest one in Dublin. Besides selling school material, they also specialize in antiquarian books, modern books and classics, new and second-hand books. It really expresses the true spirit of Ireland. They also sell posters of famous Irish people, landscapes and cities. Of course, other literature written in English can be found in the bookstore, but I would personally recommend it due to its Irish spirit."

Greene's Bookshop was established 1843 and the interior is small, on several levels. The Pembrey family has run the business since the beginning of the 20th century (1912) when it was taken over by Herbert H. Pembrey, then passed onto his son Herbert Seymour Pembrey, who looked after the business along with his son Eric until the year 2000, when sadly both Eric and Herbert passed away. The family firm is now being run by Eric's son David. A huge collection of discount books and knowledgeable staff is what characterizes this great place for second hand and new books. Also, the bookstore sells maps, prints, posters.

The bookstore has recently moved from its 250 year old residence on Claire Street to Sandyford Industrial zone. Beside their original specialty - secondhand and antiquarian books of Irish interest, they now also specialize in school and library supplies.

Here is a lovely picture of Greene's. It is a lovely bookshop and I have the fondest memories of it when I was in Dublin.
