It's colorful, alternative, has a subtle though intoxicating smell, and a great though limited selection of new and secondhand books in English, Spanish, and French, including reads in art, literature, spirituality, health, sex, religion, travel, dance, theater, and fiction. It also has the largest range of Moleskine notebook on sale, some of the best postcards of the city, offbeat gift items, and children's toys. Located on Calle Argumosa 39 in the ever-happening Lavapies barrio, it's a Madrid must-visit."
La Libreria de Lavapies is a bookstore every single book-lover would like to find in his or her neighborhood. This place proves that it's still possible to create a bookstore which represents an honest alternative to indistinguishable bookstore chains - its individuality can be seen in many aspects, whether it's the atmosphere, the selection of books on offer, or the design of the interior. La Libreria de Lavapies is mostly a Spanish bookstore and although it holds a smaller English section, it doesn't rank among its strongest points.
