"Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" This famous catchphrase, immortalized on the silver screen by Spencer Tracy in the 1939 movie "Stanley and Livingstone", is the most known link between two legendary British explorers of the second half of the 19th century. These two explorers, mostly known for their adventurous quests in Africa, have inspired the owners of this bookstore in The Hague (or Den Haag if you prefer), which carries their names. It isn't hard to guess that Stanley & Livingstone is a specialized travel bookstore, which aims to provide the contemporary travelers with all the information they need.

The Hague is a city where more than 150 international organizations are based, it is also known as the "legal capital of the world", and the official language of the vast majority of these institutions is English. The city is the home to lots of expats and many of them are regulars at Stanley & Livingstone. With about three-fourths of its stock being in English, the bookstore is more than ready to satisfy the needs of travel adventure seeking visitors whose first language isn't Dutch.

The selection of travel-related material available at this bookstore includes travel guides, books on nature, books on culture and customs of different countries, phrasebooks, travel journals, road atlases and lots of other stuff.
